Can't Wait 'Til Christmas...

to share one of my favorite Advent songs:
O Come, O, Come, Emmanuel

When I was a girl,
my church, which we joined in the late 1950's,
had Advent services the 4 Wednesday nights before Christmas.

It just occurred to me that this may be
the last Advent season
that a member of our family attends Advent services there.
Dad now offers his hallelujahs in heaven.
My little Bro rarely goes anymore.
I live 16 hours away.
Mom is still an active member,
but at 83,
it's not a good thing for her to drive at night.

An era is ending.

I got my homework done early on those nights.
We had dinner, cleaned up the kitchen, and scurried off to church by 7:00 p.m.
Sometimes the Junior Choir, of which I was a member,
would sing a beautiful old hymn like the ones I wrote about here and here.
I loved that!

The tune of today's beautiful Advent hymn is
a French processional over 5 centuries old
and the text was written by John Heringsdorf, a German Jesuit priest and hymnwriter, .
In 1633, he wrote Psalteriolum Cantionum Catholicarum,
a hymnal which went through several editions.
The 1710 edition contains the earliest printing of
Hope you have a wonderful week!
Blessings to all.

Welcome, Karen. I'm so glad you chose to share with us on Spiritual Sundays. Love the name of your blog.
This is one of my favorite Christmas songs too. What wonderful memories you have of Christmases past. Everything changes with time - well, almost everything. Certainly God's grace and promises do not change and aren't we grateful for that.
Thank you for sharing with us today. I hope you will chose to share many times in the future.
Blessings,
Charlotte

Hi again, Karen,
Thank you for the nice comments you made on my blog. You made my day. I'm glad you and your husband have been committed to each other for all these years. I can't believe my husband and I have been married over 52 years now. Boy, that time sure flew by. It is sad that so many marriages break up now. I remember when I was a little girl divorce was something people were ashamed of. Not so now. Times have certainly changed.
Have a wonderful week.
Blessings,
Charlotte
